About App Lock
App Lock is a security feature in the Vault mobile app that uses biometric authentication to restrict access when the app is reopened. Depending on your device, this may include Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, or other unlock methods.
The feature is designed to protect sensitive user data if a device is shared, left unattended, or lost.
By enabling App Lock, users add an extra layer of security without needing to sign out of the app.
Access App Lock settings
App Lock settings are available from the Security section of the Vault mobile app.
- Go to: Settings > Security
- Toggle App Lock to enable
Enable or disable App Lock
You can turn App Lock on or off at any time using the App Lock toggle
- When enabling App Lock, biometric authentication is required before the setting is saved
- If authentication fails, App Lock remains disabled and an inline message is shown
- When disabling App Lock, biometric authentication is required again to confirm the change
Requiring authentication when disabling App Lock helps prevent someone from changing security settings on an already unlocked device.
Configure the Lock After setting
The Lock After option appears only when App Lock is enabled. This setting controls how long the app can remain inactive before biometric authentication is required again.
- Immediately
- 1 minute (default)
- 5 minutes
- 15 minutes
- 30 minutes
Shorter timeframes are recommended for shared or high‑security environments, while longer options reduce interruptions during extended mobile sessions.
Expected behaviour and platform differences
When the configured inactivity period has elapsed, users must authenticate biometrically to reopen the app.
- Authentication is required when enabling App Lock
- Authentication is required when disabling App Lock
- Authentication is required after the Lock After time has passed
Platform‑specific labels are applied automatically:
- On iOS, labels display as Use Face ID or Use Touch ID
- On Android, labels display as Use Fingerprint or Face Unlock
